Ingredients

  • 1 jar applesauce (25 oz)
  • 1 cup self-rising flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 1/2 tbsp ground cinnamon (optional)

Equipment

  • 9x13-inch baking dish
  • mixing bowl
  • mixing spoon
  • measuring cups
  • oven

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Place the butter in a 9x13-inch baking dish and place in the oven until completely melted. Remove carefully.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine self-rising flour, sugar, and milk. Stir until smooth.
  4. Pour the batter evenly over the melted butter. Do not stir.
  5. Spoon the applesauce evenly over the batter. Do not stir.
  6. Sprinkle cinnamon evenly over the top if using.
  7. Bake for 35–45 minutes until golden brown and set around the edges.
  8. Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving warm with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream if desired.

Notes

Do not stir the layers after adding the batter or applesauce. The layered method creates the signature self-forming cobbler texture. Use good-quality applesauce for the best flavor. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for a classic presentation.
