Southern Honey Butter Skillet Corn

This Southern Honey Butter Skillet Corn is a rich, creamy side dish made with sweet corn, butter, honey, and heavy cream. The honey caramelizes with the butter to create a glossy glaze before the cream transforms everything into a silky sauce that coats every kernel. Ready in just 20 minutes with only four ingredients, it's the perfect side for holidays, Sunday dinners, barbecues, and family meals.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups frozen corn kernels
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

Equipment

  • cast iron skillet
  • wooden spoon
  • measuring cups
  • measuring spoons

Method

  1. Melt the butter in a medium or large cast iron skillet over medium heat, swirling to coat the pan.
  2. Add the frozen corn and cook for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until heated through and lightly golden in spots.
  3. Drizzle the honey over the corn and stir well. Continue cooking for 2–3 minutes until the butter and honey bubble together into a glossy caramelized glaze.
  4. Pour in the heavy cream, stir to combine, and bring to a gentle simmer. Reduce the heat to medium-low.
  5. Cook for 4–6 minutes, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens and coats the corn.
  6. Taste and adjust by adding more honey for sweetness or a splash of cream for a thinner sauce if desired.
  7. Remove from the heat and let rest for 2–3 minutes before serving.

Notes

Allow the honey and butter to bubble together for the full 2–3 minutes before adding the cream to develop the rich caramelized flavor. Use a cast iron skillet if possible, avoid stirring the corn too frequently while browning, and let the finished dish rest for 2–3 minutes before serving so the sauce thickens naturally.
