Method
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly grease a standard loaf pan or baking dish.
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, breadcrumbs, eggs, milk, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper.
- Gently mix with clean hands or a large fork until just evenly combined. Do not overmix.
- Transfer the mixture to the prepared pan and shape into a compact, even loaf.
- Spread a thin even layer of ketchup over the entire top surface of the meatloaf.
- Bake for 50–60 minutes until the center reaches an internal temperature of 160°F.
- Remove from oven and allow to rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing.
- Slice and serve warm alongside creamy mashed potatoes with gravy, green beans with bacon, and buttered corn.
Notes
Use 80/20 ground beef for the most moist and flavorful meatloaf. Mix the ingredients only until just combined to avoid a dense texture, finely chop the onion, and use a meat thermometer to verify the center reaches 160°F. Apply the ketchup glaze evenly and allow the meatloaf to rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing.
