Ingredients
  

  • 2 sheets puff pastry thawed according to package directions
  • 8 oz guava paste cut into ¼-inch slices
  • 8 oz cream cheese softened
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)
  • Coarse sugar for sprinkling optional

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Roll out the puff pastry and cut into squares or rectangles.
  3. In a bowl, mix cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Place a slice of guava paste and a spoonful of cream cheese mixture in the center of each pastry square.
  5. Fold the pastry over to create a triangle or rectangle and seal the edges with a fork.
  6. Brush the tops with egg wash and sprinkle with coarse sugar if desired.
  7. Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
  8. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For extra crispiness, chill the assembled pastries for 15 minutes before baking.
